Your home and office, actually smart

Planned, installed, and working, from the light switch to the software.

Smart switches that never miss, sound in every room, wifi with no dead spots, ethernet where you want it, and one app that runs it all. Whether it's a 1920s house, a new build, or a small office, I plan it around your place and your budget, install it, and make it simple enough that everyone can use it. If it has electricity in it, it's what I deal with. No jargon, no pressure.

If your place could be smarter, you're in the right place

You don't need to become a hobbyist or hand your house to a big integrator with a big invoice. You need someone honest who plans around your place and your budget, installs it properly, and explains it in plain English. Homes and small offices, older buildings and new ones. No jargon, no upselling, and everything stays in your name.

You want a smart home but don't know where to start

A thousand brands, half of them junk. I plan what's actually worth doing for your place and budget, then make it happen.

You bought smart gear and it half works

Three apps, two hubs, a switch that drops off wifi. I untangle it into one setup that just works, in one app.

Wifi dies in half the house and the internet feels slow

I fix the foundation first: upgraded internet, mesh wifi, real ethernet ports, and clean wiring. Everything smart depends on it.

Older home, modern expectations

No neutral wire, plaster walls, quirky wiring. There's a right device for almost every situation, and I know which one.

Worried it'll spy on you or stop working someday

I favor local-first setups like Home Assistant: your switches and cameras keep working without the cloud, and your data stays yours.

An office that needs to just work

Conference room TV, sound, wifi, cameras, door access, and the website behind it all, set up once, properly, by one person.

What I can help with

From one smart switch to the whole building

Planning only, full installation, or anything in between. Start with a free call and we'll work out what your place actually needs.

Start here

Plan your smart home or office

A walkthrough of your place, in person or on a call. I map out what's worth doing, what it costs, and what to skip. You get a clear plan you can run with, or that I execute for you.

Smart lighting, switches and plugs

Smart switches, dimmers, plugs, and bulbs that work every time, in older homes without neutral wires and new builds alike. The wall switch still works like a wall switch, just better.

Sound systems, TVs and entertainment

Speakers, multi-room audio, soundbars, TVs, and streaming, picked for your space, mounted, wired cleanly, and simple enough that everyone in the house can use them.

Faster internet, wifi and wiring

Upgraded internet service, mesh wifi with no dead spots, real ethernet ports where you want them, and clean cabling from the wall to the desk.

Voice assistants and hubs

Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home, set up to actually control your stuff. Plus Raspberry Pi and hub projects for the in-between things off-the-shelf gear can't do.

Home Assistant and automations

Every device in one place, automations that make the house feel smart, and dashboards the whole family or office can use. Local-first, so it works even when the internet doesn't.

Cameras, security and comfort

Cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, sensors, and thermostats, installed and tied together, with your footage and your data under your control.

Websites, portals and cloud

Websites, custom customer portals, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, and the big clouds like AWS. The software side, handled by the same person who wired the office. Try the free AWS cost check.

Your on-call tech person

Something new to add, something stopped working, or you just want it looked after. Help whenever you need it, without hiring full time.

No set packages. Every job starts with a free call so you know what you're getting and what it costs.

How it works

Simple from start to finish

1

We talk

A free call about your place and what you want it to do. I tell you where the biggest wins are, at no cost.

2

You get a clear plan and price

Exactly what goes in, what it costs, and what to skip. No surprises, and no hourly meter running in the background.

3

It gets done, and it works

I install it, set it up, and walk you through it, or hand you the plan to run with yourself. Either way, it ends with everything actually working.

About

Real experience, explained simply

Gerber Smart Homes is run by Stefan Gerber, an AWS Certified Solutions Architect who is just as comfortable behind a switch plate as behind a server. I work for you, not for any vendor, I price by the job, and you keep ownership of everything.

This isn't theory. I've wired and terminated networks, set up smart devices, cameras, and sound, built Raspberry Pi and Home Assistant setups, moved a whole company onto the cloud, and built custom websites, portals, and dashboards. Most installers stop at the wall plate and most developers never leave the screen. I do the whole stack, from the switch in the wall to the software that runs it.

Questions

Common questions

How much does the first call cost?
Nothing. The first call is free, with no obligation. It's a quick chat about your place, what you want it to do, and where the biggest wins are.
Is this for homes or businesses?
Both. Houses and apartments, older homes and new builds, home offices, and small offices and shops. The gear overlaps more than you'd think, and the planning is the same: figure out what you actually want, then make it work.
My home is older. Can it still be smart?
Yes, and older homes are a specialty. No neutral wire behind the switch, plaster walls, odd wiring: there's a right device for almost every situation, and I pick gear that fits your house instead of forcing your house to fit the gear.
What do you actually work with?
If it has electricity in it, it's what I deal with. Light switches, bulbs, and smart plugs, sound systems, speakers, and TVs, internet service, wifi, routers, and ethernet ports, Alexa and voice assistants, Raspberry Pi projects, cameras, locks, and thermostats, all the way up to Home Assistant, custom dashboards and portals, and full websites. I recommend what fits your needs and budget, not what pays me.
Do you do the electrical work?
I handle the smart devices, low-voltage wiring, and networking myself. Where the job needs panel or line-voltage work that code says belongs to a licensed electrician, I plan it, bring one in, and manage it, so you still only deal with me.
Will my house stop working if the internet goes out, or if a company shuts down?
Not the way I build it. I favor local-first setups like Home Assistant where your switches, automations, and cameras keep working without the cloud, and everything stays in your name and under your control: your accounts, your devices, your footage.
How does pricing work?
We agree on the job and the price up front, after the free call. No set packages, no hourly meter running, and no surprises on the invoice.
Who will I actually be working with, and where do you work?
Me, Stefan Gerber, an AWS Certified Solutions Architect who is just as comfortable behind a switch plate as behind a server. I work with homes and offices anywhere in the US: based in Los Angeles, on-site across Southern California, traveling for bigger installs by arrangement, and remote for planning, software, and cloud work everywhere.
